Crank

Crank is a novel that I read by Ellen Hopkins, who is one of my favorite authors. Her work is insightful, real and Crank does not fall short of that. The book is dedicated to her daughter who the book is primary based on and speaks of a young woman taking a joyride with the monster. Every story seems to have a "monster" or obstacle that must be overcome but in this story that monster is crack. The main character in the story becomes addicted to the substance and begins to go on a spiraling downfall. The book also reflects on relationships between families, friends and lovers. I choose to read this book because I enjoy the structural hints that the author has setup with in the book and it makes it easy to follow. The book is somewhat set up in poetic formats and flows from page to page. I would recommend this book to others who want an interesting read and a better understanding of what they really want out of life. The authors intent on writing this book was to somewhat inform the readers of the dangerous that substance but the book was primarily for entertainment. The author also used numerous descriptive hints to get the reader engaged in the book.

The Volcano

The book that I continued to read and write about was "The Garden" and the chapter that I read was entitled "The Volcano." So far in the book, Eve has lost her trust in God, since he forced her and Adam to have sex. To break away from that bad memory, the serpent and Eve planned a trip outside of the Garden. Now Eve had not even thought of life outside of the Garden so this trip really fantasied her. They spent a couple of days getting out of the Garden and explored an enormous volcano, until it erupted. The experience was good for Eve and opened her eyes up to new things about herself. I really enjoyed this chapter, because it mainly focused on Eve evolving as a character within the book. The chapter ended off with the serpent and Eve heading back to the Garden and bonding with one another.

Eve meets Adam

I am still speaking on the same book , named "The Garden" which is about the life of the first lady Eve. I am speaking from the sixth chapter and the story is really developing itself. As Eve embarked on many new and exciting adventures with the seprent, she started to wonder who God really was. She has heard many stories about God but she can not fully grasp the idea of one man controlling everything. When Eve finally does meet God he is not the man that she was hoping for. Of course he was beautiful and the only creature that she has ever seen wearing clothes but he is not as open to her as the serpent is. She has many questions about the world but God wants her to only listen and obey. After a couple of weeks of listening to stories from God, she finally gets a chance to meet Adam. Eve was overjoyed to meet someone like her but it turned out that they were complete opposites. The author used a lot of compare and contrast to describe Adam and Eve. While Eve was eager to learn about the world, Adam was playful and most of the time got yelled at by God. Adam was an inventor just like Eve but used his skills to make play things like a ball to hold his attention. While reading this session in the book I was a little shocked that Adam and Eve weren't drawn to each other instantly. Adam was a little shy but Eve was just completely fascinated by him.  As I read on I saw that they began to bond and interact with each other as the days went on. I think that the author wanted the reader to acknowledge that even though they may seem different they hold some of the same feelings and values about the world.

Eve and the Serpent

Eve has just awaken to find herself in a field of grass. As she explores her body she notices a very large and colorful snake in front of her. The snake is kind and tells her many stories about the world and the name of the different animals. The serpent was sent to be Eve's teacher of the world and Eve takes the knowledge that he gives her and learns to invent. She uses her mind to make things that she needs like a bowl, shelter and things to hold up her hair. The serpent also teaches her how to find food and prepare it. I felt that this was a real good insight on why Eve may have trusted the serpent in the end. From Eve's prospective the serpent isn't bad in her eyes and is seen mre like a father figure. While i was reading i saw him as a caring father over his new born baby. If i were to take notes on what i read i would use though bubbles to organize my thoughts. This way is very easy to organize and i can successfully connect the characters to with things that they do and different events.

Materials and Free Choice

When I took the “What Kind of Reader Are You?” my results were that drama was my favorite genre while fiction was my second. I think that the results were very accurate and it really reflects in what I read. I steer towards books that have a since of thrill and imagination intertwined between the plot. The last book that I read that really interested me was called The Garden by Elsie V. Aidinoff. The story told the tale of Adam and Eve but from the prospective of Eve. This story really captivated my mind with its use of great imagery and the side of the story that I had never heard before. The book gives good insight on why things may have gone the way that they did and how everyone can make a mistake that will change their entire lives. I would really recommend this book to others and I feel that the book is not only geared at women.
